Lean Consulting Services
Helping healthcare organizations improve quality and make improvements that impact cost and safety
We work closely with client organizations to design quality or safety improvement projects for clinical and non-clinical areas. We work with local team members to:
- Reach consensus on the purpose and specific objectives of the work
- Identify the people who are going to be involved and how they will be involved
- Test commitment within relevant clinical services and the organization to achieving the improvement
- Describe and map the current processes used to deliver the care or service that is the focus of the improvement work
- Measure the current level of quality or safety, using a variety of quantitative measurement tools
- Measure perceptions of the current service, using a variety of qualitative measurement tools
- Impose data protection provisions in the collection, collation and analysis of data
- Flag any ethics issues that might arise in the improvement project for local resolution
- Recommend approaches for analysis of the findings of baseline measurement, including how to analyze problems revealed and plan and implement action needed.
Our programs are scalable. We can carry out the work involved in quality improvement projects we design or monitor the progress with designated teams. Our services and capabilities include the following:
- Train team members to be data collectors for quantitative or qualitative measurement tools, test reliability of data collection among data collectors and monitor data collectors’ adherence to the data collection protocol
- Collect, collate and analyze quantitative or qualitative data
- Facilitate analysis of problems revealed to identify the root causes
- Facilitate planning of action to achieve improvements in practice
- Design repeat data collection following the implementation of action
- Prepare a report on the quality or safety improvement.
Mapping of clinical processes and systems
We work directly with clinical teams to map complex clinical processes and systems in order to identify where a process or system can be made more effective or safer for patients. We also help teams measure the cycle time and process flow required for key processes and identify where and how to reduce the time if desirable.
Quality improvement strategies and policies
We develop improvement strategies for healthcare organizations or clinical services and corporate policies on the conduct of improvement projects in a healthcare organization. From hospitals to clinics to large systems, our solutions are scalable and allow you to work with the resources you have available.
Mentoring local quality improvement facilitators
We work hand-in-hand with improvement team leaders and facilitators to complete defined quality or patient safety improvement projects. We also serve as mentors to support the development of quality improvement facilitators working with several teams to achieve substantial improvements in the quality or safety of patient care or service.
Involving patients in quality improvement projects
When a healthcare organization or a clinical team wants to involve patients actively in the organization’s or team’s improvement program, we advise those involved on practical ways to invite and involve patients or their representatives in improvement projects, including training patients and their representatives to be skilled improvement facilitators.
